Wow, what a beautiful exhibit and works of art. I live in Holyoke, Massachusetts in the United States, and it is a small city with a strong industrial heritage. I have been thinking about making some collage projects with old bits of ephemera I have collected here. Thank you for this inspiration!

Thank you for making this video. What incredibly talented and imaginative ladies that made these pieces. It's really important to honour the haritage of where you live. Being from right down the other end of the country it was really interesting to hear about the different aspects and places in Lancashire. The hoop work was definitely the worthy winner.

I am so impressed with the thoughts that go behind each piece. The story is truly stitched in each piece. If I could give more than 1 thumbs up I would.

I’m from Lancaster, my Dad worked at Lansil, my Grandad so worked at Lansil but he was a basket maker, so he made the skips and holders for the huge bottles that contained acid. Grandad retired at 65 got a presentation clock then turned up for work again on Monday. Lansil might be gone but Lansil Social Club is still going strong for now, but I understand that the golf course, the car parks and the club is for the axe, to be turned into building sites, so a lot more homes, hopefully affordable, not to be bought by renters but for people to live in, and hopefully NOT for anymore student accommodation, the Landlords that have bought up affordable housing in Lancaster to rent mainly to students have outpriced first time buyers and it leaves some streets like ghost towns come summer when the students go home. So how about either building more social housing for the folks trying to get their foot on the housing ladder or the council bringing back Council Mortgages? I remember Lancaster and Morecambe in their heydays, plenty of fair paid employment which reflected on the feel of the city. Then Thatcher appeared ( que music from jaws) within no time Caton Road looked like a bomb had hit it. American companies bought out the order books but not the factories or workers. Some Lansil chaps made good efforts to keep Lansil going, and they did. But the wrighting was on the wall for English/Lancaster factories. My dear old dad was Bert Ireland who ended up as manager of the knitting dept and my Ganggang was Roger Ireland Snr. Formerly from Arkholme and Skelton. I’m bushed, don’t think I wrote that much in my dissertation. ❤❤❤❤❤

What talent you ladies have. Being born and bred in Lancashire, myself, in the early forties, I found this most interesting, as a lot of the older generation, at that time, still wore shawls and long skirts. In fact, I still have my own baby clogs.

Watching this it struck me the OTHER sense being employed is TOUCH...whereas I would never WANT to touch a drawing or painting Textiles (and no I would never touch an exhibited piece either) but it involves touch perhaps , texture, we RESPOND to it with MORE senses than we would to a painting...my 2 cents...

So wonderful to celebrate in textiles these more or less forgotten women mill worker. Beautiful beautiful art forms such a treat to see them presented in such a great variety of artworks. Absolutely blown away by the quality, insightful and masterful creativity!

I wonder if she's sewn on the plastic or paper labels from packaging or if they are printed onto cloth and then sewn. Both ways are just perfect for her fun, eclectic whimsical style. I think she's the auntie or mom everyone wishes they had! Fabulous!
